Berlin – The sex industry is booming. And the demand for so-called sex dolls – dolls with which one can have sexual intercourse – is also increasing.
One person who really knows the business is Salvadore-Hugo Garth (25) from Berlin. The 25-year-old founded his sex doll distribution company housedoll in 2020.
Those interested can rent their favorite via the internet and have it discreetly delivered to their own front door.
A total of nine dolls are available, eight of which are female. To give each doll a distinct personality, it even has its own profile (age, hobbies, zodiac sign).
"The dolls range in size from 1.60 meters to 1.66 meters and weigh an average of around 33 kilograms," said Garth.
Even though the dolls have special metal joints and can stand on their own, they still need to be moved by the customer.
The Berlin-based company doesn't have a core target group. "Our customers range in age from 18 to 70. Mostly men, but also couples and singles," the 25-year-old told TAG24.
And users can customize the dolls individually, considering outfit, hair color, or lipstick. The company plans to focus even more on diversity in the future.
But how does hygiene actually work? Generally, condoms are mandatory when having sex with the dolls, unless you rent or buy a special insert that can be removed.
The dolls have three openings that require particularly thorough cleaning. A hygiene concept was developed in collaboration with a chemical company specializing in cleaning.
A special cleaning system ensures hygiene.
Using a cleaning system, the dolls, which are named Paula, Sarah, Lisa and Laura among others, are disinfected, cleaned and then dried.
"The product is becoming increasingly established, partly because people are losing social interaction. Here, basic sexual needs can be met with a click of the mouse, without much effort," Garth explains regarding the rising demand.
"Furthermore, people are becoming more daring, although the product is not yet tolerated everywhere."
Garth currently rents out his sex dolls in and around Berlin, but he wants to expand. He also has plans for his own erotic film production featuring Laura, Sofia, and others.
