Berlin – The sex business is booming. And demand for so-called sex dolls – dolls with which one can have sexual intercourse – is also increasing.
One person who really knows the business is Salvadore-Hugo Garth (25) from Berlin. The 25-year-old founded his sex doll distribution company, housedoll, in 2020.
Interested parties can rent their favorite online and have it discreetly delivered to their doorstep.
There are a total of nine dolls to choose from, eight of which are female. To give them a personality, each one even has its own profile (age, hobbies, star sign).
"The dolls range in height from 1.60 meters to 1.66 meters and weigh an average of around 33 kilograms," says Garth.
Even though the dolls have special metal joints and can stand on their own, they still have to be moved by the customer themselves.
The Berlin-based company doesn't have a core target group. "Our customers are between 18 and 70 years old. They're mostly men, but also couples and singles," the 25-year-old tells TAG24.
And they can customize the dolls individually, including outfits, hair color, and lipstick. The company plans to pay even more attention to diversity in the future.
But how does hygiene actually work? Condoms are generally required when having sex with the dolls, unless you rent or buy a special removable insert.
The dolls have three openings that require special cleaning. A hygiene concept was developed in collaboration with a chemical company specializing in cleaning.
Special cleaning system ensures hygiene
Using a cleaning system, the dolls, whose names include Paula, Sarah, Lisa and Laura, are disinfected, cleaned and then dried.
"The product is becoming increasingly established, partly because people are losing social interaction. Here, basic sexual needs can be satisfied with the click of a mouse, without having to put in much effort," Garth explains the growing demand.
"People are also becoming more confident, even though the product is not yet tolerated everywhere."
Garth currently rents out the love dolls in and around Berlin, but he's looking to expand. He's also planning his own erotic film production with Laura, Sofia, and the rest.
